Research progress on impact of basalt application on farmland soil, crop growth,and carbon sequestration

  • Soil is foundation of plant growth, providing necessary conditions such as water and nutrients for plant growth.Simultaneously, soil represents a crucial carbon storage reservoir in global carbon cycle, with ability to absorb and store carbon dioxide, playing a significant role in mitigating climate change.Basalt, as a vital natural mineral material, is parent material in soil formation, containing various mineral elements.It is considered a relatively stable and safe long-term effective "fertilizer" with widespread applications in agriculture and environmental protection.From perspectives of soil quality, crop yield, and soil carbon sequestration, recent domestic and international research on application of basalt powder to improve soil, enhance crop yield, and strengthen soil carbon sequestration, was summarized.It could provide reference materials for future research in this field.
