Abstract
To screen high-quality Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties suitable for cultivation in Jimusaer County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, six introduced Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties(Yuntianhong No.6, Jinhonghua No.3, Jindianhong No.8, Shenghong No.9, Jindianhong No.6, Tahong No.1)and local variety Jihong No.3 were used as test materials to observe phenological stages and agronomic traits of seven Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties. Results have shown that Yuntianhong No.6 had the highest dry weight of petals(tubular flowers)(8.23 g).Jindianhong No.6 had the maximum number of effective inflorescences per plant(30.33).Jihong No.3 exhibited significant advantages in stem diameter(1.28 cm) and plant height(82.44 cm).Jindianhong No.8 had a higher total yield(petals+fresh weight per inflorescence)and higher harvesting efficiency due to its spineless trait.Jinhonghua No.3 was an early-maturing variety with a total growth period of 110 days, Tahong No.1 and Jihong No.3 were late-maturing varieties. There was small difference in growth periods between tested introduced varieties and control variety, and all could be sown normally.Based on comprehensive agronomic traits and yield-related indicators, Yuntianhong No.6, Jindianhong No.6 and Jindianhong No.8 performed outstandingly and could be promoted as primary Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties for cultivation in Jimusaer County.Jinhonghua No.3 could meet demand for staggered harvesting due to its early-maturing trait. This study has provided a scientific reference for Carthamus tinctorius L. varieties selection and their high-quality, high-yield cultivation in Jimusaer County.
